PlushCare review

Price transparency

What is disclosed before intake, not a clinical rating.

PlushCare is a primary care service that also offers physician-led weight management, rather than a medication subscription with one bundled bill. Its standard membership is $19.99 a month after a 30-day trial, with appointments, medication and lab work charged separately. It is worth considering when you want weight care alongside everyday health needs and can verify your insurance benefits before starting.

The verdict

PlushCare shows its price before the medical intake, but leaves gaps, such as what the advertised price includes or which pharmacy fills the prescription. It ranks 43 of 65 on price transparency.

The score beside PlushCare's name rates how much it tells you before the medical intake — the price, the pharmacy and the terms — not how cheap it is.

What do you get with PlushCare?

  • Video visits with a primary care physician to discuss weight, health history, medication and any necessary laboratory assessment
  • Prescription options including branded Wegovy and Zepbound when appropriate, plus other weight-management treatments
  • Prior authorization assistance for eligible insurance pathways, with medication billed through the dispensing pharmacy
  • Care-team messaging, appointment booking, prescription requests and app-based fitness and nutrition tracking through membership
  • Access to broader primary care for non-emergency concerns; dedicated registered dietitian appointments are not established as an included membership benefit

How does PlushCare work?

  1. Check benefits and book

Confirm your medical insurance network, visit estimate and membership choice before scheduling a video appointment. Prescription coverage needs a separate check.

  2. Discuss your health

A physician reviews your weight-management goals and history and may order labs. PlushCare's medication pages describe a second appointment to review results before deciding on treatment.

  3. Resolve coverage and pharmacy details

If a prescription is appropriate, the care team can assist with prior authorization. It goes to a local pharmacy or, for suitable manufacturer cash-pay arrangements, the relevant dispensing service.

  4. Return for ongoing monitoring

Keep follow-up appointments as directed and use care-team messaging between visits. Each appointment can create another visit charge; membership is not unlimited free medical consultations.

How much does PlushCare cost?

Semaglutide

Brand-name Wegovy/Ozempic options; drug and labs extra. Standard membership $19.99/mo after trial plus visit charges. No universal ongoing total.

Tirzepatide

Brand-name Zepbound/Mounjaro options; drug and labs extra. Standard membership $19.99/mo after trial plus visit charges. No universal ongoing total.

Where it operates

Company advertises all 50 states and Washington, D.C.; appointment, insurance and treatment eligibility vary

The standard monthly membership is $19.99 after a 30-day free trial, plus your insurance visit cost or $129 per self-pay doctor visit. Medication and lab work are extra. A month with one $129 cash appointment and a paid monthly membership therefore costs $148.99 before those extras; this is an illustration, not a fixed monthly treatment price or a promise about appointment frequency.

  • The how-it-works page also lists annual membership at $149 prepaid for the year. That is a different commitment from paying $19.99 each month.
  • Membership starts with the first booking and continues until canceled. The cancellation guide says to complete cancellation at least one calendar day before renewal. The public explanation also describes requesting limited access without membership benefits.
  • Visit estimates can change after an insurance claim is processed. A low advertised copay is not a guaranteed price for your plan or a medication copay.
  • For branded medicines, pharmacy price, dose, insurance decisions and manufacturer-program eligibility all affect the bill. PlushCare's Wegovy page still contains an introductory offer explicitly valid only through March 2026; do not budget from that expired figure.
  • The general appointment policy charges $75 for late cancellation or rescheduling within two hours, or a no-show. Canceling membership and canceling a booked visit are separate tasks.
  • PlushCare says HSA/FSA funds may cover eligible visits, prescriptions and referred labs, but not its membership fee.
  • A consultation that ends without a prescription is not automatically refundable. The refund policy distinguishes inability to assess or treat from a completed clinical assessment, lab referral or medical advice; prescription sales are final.

Who is PlushCare best for?

A good fit if

  • People who want weight management within a broader primary care relationship
  • Patients whose insurance covers the doctor's visits and who can separately confirm prescription benefits
  • People comfortable using a pharmacy and paying for visits as needed rather than buying a care-and-medication bundle

Look elsewhere if

  • Shoppers reading $19.99 as a complete GLP-1 treatment price
  • People who require included registered dietitian sessions
  • Anyone seeking a confirmed compounded-medication program or a guaranteed prescription at the first visit

What are PlushCare's pros and cons?

Pros

  • Weight management can sit alongside ongoing primary care rather than in a separate prescription-only service
  • The standard membership and self-pay appointment charges are published before booking
  • Insurance prior authorization support is offered
  • The company describes broad U.S. availability and lets patients choose a doctor, subject to scheduling and location

Cons

  • Membership, appointments, lab work and pharmacy purchases can produce several separate expenses
  • Lab review may require a second paid appointment before treatment is selected
  • A broad primary care service is different from a structured program with regular dietitian appointments
  • Medication pages contain time-limited pricing examples, so the current pharmacy quote matters more than a promotional headline

The pharmacy behind the medicine

It does not name its pharmacy. PlushCare does not publicly disclose which compounding pharmacy fills its prescriptions. That is common and it is not an accusation — but it does mean the one thing you would most want to verify about a compounded medicine is the one thing you cannot.

A compounded drug is mixed to order by a pharmacy rather than manufactured and released as a finished product, so the FDA has not reviewed the specific preparation you are prescribed for safety, effectiveness or quality. That is true of every compounded program, including the highest-scoring ones.

What else do people ask about PlushCare?

Does $19.99 include weight-loss medication?

No. It is the standard monthly membership fee after the trial. Doctor appointments, medication and lab work are additional. With self-pay, the published doctor visit charge is $129.

Can PlushCare prescribe Wegovy or Zepbound?

Its weight-management pages list both as options after physician assessment. A prescription is not guaranteed, and the doctor may need laboratory results and another appointment before choosing treatment.

Is PlushCare a compounded GLP-1 subscription?

The current weight-management pages describe branded prescription options and separately billed care. They do not establish a compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide subscription, so it should not be treated as one.

Does membership include a dietitian?

The published membership benefits include care-team messaging and nutrition tracking, but do not establish included registered dietitian appointments. Ask specifically about that service if regular nutrition consultations are important to you.

Where is PlushCare available?

The company describes care in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Actual appointment availability, clinical eligibility and your insurance network still need confirmation for your location.

Can I cancel or use the service without membership?

The company describes a limited-access option without membership benefits. To stop membership renewal, its cancellation guide says to finish the profile cancellation process at least one calendar day before the billing date. Also cancel any appointment you no longer need; separate late-change and no-show fees may still apply.
