Privacy policy

Analytics is the only thing we measure. Gut Metabolic uses Google Analytics 4 to see how the magazine is read — which articles land, how people arrive, and where things break. That means anonymized signals such as the pages you view, an approximate location derived from your IP address (the IP itself is not stored), your device and browser type, and the site or search that referred you. We do not ask for your name, and we do not build a personal profile of you.

Measurement starts when the page does. Gut Metabolic is a US publication and runs on an opt-out basis. Under Google Consent Mode v2, analytics storage is granted from the moment the page loads, and the banner tells you so rather than asking first. Advertising storage, ad user data and ad personalization stay denied at all times — nothing here feeds ad targeting. One tap turns analytics off, on the banner or further down this page.

Your choice lives in your own browser. We remember your decision in a small entry in your browser's localStorage under the key cookie-consent. That entry sits on your device — it is not a tracking cookie, and it is not sent to us as personal data. It also makes the setting per browser and per device. Google Analytics sets its own cookies to count visits; opting out deletes them.

We use the data to improve the writing. The aggregate numbers tell us which topics are worth expanding, which pages are confusing, and whether the site is technically healthy. That is the whole purpose. We do not use analytics to target ads to you around the web, and we do not make automated decisions about you.

We never sell your personal data. We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information — full stop. There is no data broker on the other end of this site. The only sharing that happens is the technical hand-off to our analytics provider described below, and only after you have consented.

Google is our one third-party processor. Google Analytics is operated by Google, which processes the consented, anonymized measurement data as an independent third party under its own terms and privacy policy. When you consent, some of that data may be processed on Google's infrastructure, including in the United States. We do not control Google's own practices, so their policy governs what they do with it on their side.

You can access, delete, or opt out at any time. You are entitled to ask what we hold, to have it deleted, and to opt out of analytics. Opting out is immediate and needs no reload: Consent Mode goes to denied for this browser, GA4 stops identifying the session, and the Google Analytics cookies already in your browser are deleted. Your choice is kept under the cookie-consent entry; clearing this site's data returns you to the default. If you want us to help, email info@gutmetabolic.com.

Checking your setting…

This site is not meant for children. Gut Metabolic is written for adults and is not directed at children under 18, and never at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from minors. If you believe a child has provided data through this site, contact us and we will delete it.

We keep as little as possible, for as short as possible. The consented analytics data is retained only as long as it is useful for understanding traffic trends, in line with Google Analytics' standard retention windows, and is held in aggregate rather than as individual profiles. Your local consent entry stays until you clear it.

Security is a matter of collecting little. The strongest protection is not holding sensitive data in the first place, and this site is built that way. We serve the site over encrypted connections and rely on reputable infrastructure, though no method of transmission over the internet is ever perfectly secure.
